S.I.O.T. – T.A.L.
The activity of this pipeline commenced in 1967 with the purpose of satisfying the ever increasing demand for crude oil from Germany and, later on, from Austria.
The total lenght of the piping system reaches almost 500 miles and the quantity of conveyed oil reached in the last years over 40 million tons attracting about 500 ships that every year call at its jetty and need the maritime services offered by our agency.
The jetty consist of two finger piers with two berths each, allowing access by ships corresponding to the following dimensional criteria :
Inward and outward maneuvering are allowed 24 hours and each berth is fitted with maximum three articulated 16” arms connected with the base of the pier by 36” lines that pass to 42” in the next 4 miles stretch up to the tank-farm in San Dorligo della Valle (total capacity abt 1.700.000 cbms i.e. 11 million barrels, shared among 27 tanks from 50 to 100 thousand cubic meters)
Services directly available at the terminal are
Fresh, drinkable water supply via pipe
No-stop service of shuttle-buses along the jetty to be used by crew, operators and all authorized visitors.
Utmost care is paid to safety and to fire and pollution prevention. Beside sophisticated electronic monitoring devices, frequent checks and continuous maintenance of the lines and all other devices are carried out.
The following items are very important in this respect :
A system of pollution-preventing pneumatic barriers, laid on the sea bottom, ready to start working immediately in order to withold spillages of oil or other pollutiong materials;
A skimming-barge fleet always available;
A permanent system of fire-fighting sprayers with independent water-tank and pump, ready to be operated, also by remote control, by squads of skilled fire-guards always on watch;
A safety inspector supervising everybody and everything, on board or alongside, from the first line being taken until the very moment the vessel casts off.
